Is a Wooden Deck Sealed with Defy Stain a Better Choice than Using Composite Decking?

February 14th, 2010 by admin

Some people are reluctant to use wood for their choice of deck material. With the new composite materials on the market today, many people are opting for the “maintenance free” option. But as many have already experienced with composite deck materials, maintenance free is somewhat of a false advertisement. You can find law suit after law suit on the Internet from homeowners that have been more than disappointed with the results of a composite deck material. Some people wish they had gone with wood and just had it coated with a good stain like Defy stain or some of the other leading brands. Disappointed homeowners are complaining that these man made materials are warping, discoloring, and attracting mildew like crazy. That is hardly maintenance free, and the problem they have with it is that it was sold to them as maintenance free. That is the main and sometimes only reason they bought it. I can tell you as a cleaning contractor, nothing is maintenance free that sits outdoors and is subjected to harsh elements like moisture and heat. We clean composite decks all the time and more times than not the homeowner expresses their disappointment with the material. Many have contacted the composite deck companies and have gotten no where. They say if they could get a settlement they would have a wood deck built and have us stain it with Defy stain and be done with it. Many of these companies will just go out of business after too many lawsuits and will then start up again under a different name. It really is unfortunate for homeowners, and we wish most would stick with their wooden decks and just have it protected with Defy stain to get the most out of it.
