Wood Verses Aluminum Pergolas In Utah

March 20th, 2010 by admin

When searching for a pergola, many people have a hard time deciding which material they want their pergola made out of. Pergola’s can be made out of several things such as timber or aluminum. But, there are advantages to having a timber pergola as well as having the aluminum pergola. But, the timber far outweighs the aluminum in so many ways. Here is why:

First of all, when building with aluminum, it isn’t a very earth friendly material. When they are welding the pieces together, the sparks fly and the aluminum seems to get everywhere. Which if there were any plants or vegetation anywhere before, you can bet there aren’t going to be any soon. When setting it up, there has to be parts of it that stick into the ground to hold it up. Aluminum in and of itself can be a very toxic material. So with the toxins in the metal they are then transferred to the soil, and if you were to ever take that pergola out of the soil, than the soil would be a bad soil for quite a few years.

The difference with the timber backyard structure, is that they are earth friendly. If you are one of those families that is going green, this is the perfect material. Wherever you put it, there will not be any bad chemicals or toxins of sorts to ruin the soil or the earth. Also, if you were in need of trashing the pergola, you could set it anywhere and it would decompose by itself. No harm done to your earth. Even if you aren’t so much concerned about “going green”, the timber pergola is also so much more “neat” in its appearance. The aluminum is nice, but you see where every end was welded and also, you see something that doesn’t quite belong in your yard. It is beautiful, but the timber looks so much more natural. It brings out a very natural beauty that, for some reason, hits a part of the brain triggering that it all belongs and that the scene is complete.

So although there are advantages to both the aluminum as well as the timber, the timber pergola seems to out weigh the aluminum in several and very important points.
