Which Renters Insurance is Right for You?

March 22nd, 2010 by admin

In this day and age many of us are having to rent instead of owning a property.  there are many advantages to renting such as no worries about home repairs and and dealing with mortgage companies.  Even though you may be renting you still need to have insurance for you and your valuables.  But what is the right renters insurance for you?

There are many different types of insurance out there.  You can get insurance for your valuables from theft or that can cover you from most natural disasters.  With this in mind you will need to find the right coverage for you.  Many companies will offer renters insurance comparisons but you can do most of the research on your own.  Search for the type of coverage you are interested in and compare each companies pros and con’s.

Most companies will offer better monthly rates with a larger deductible such as $250-$2500 for policies covering up to $100,000 in damage or loss.  Depending on how much your valuables are worth, you will be able to compare each companies insurance plans.  Remember that most policies will not cover flooding or earthquake damage, so keep this in mind as well.  If you have a lot of expensive items in your home you may want to spend a little more per month on you insurance in order to reduce the the amount of money you would have to pay on your deductible.  The higher the deductible will usually result in a lower monthly payment as well as how much you want to insure.

Where should you go and find the best insurance quotes?  Try and search for specific insurance needs.  Look for things such as, t.v., computer, jewelry and stereo equipment.  These key words will help you locate the right insurance providers to suffice your needs.  Some sites such as Homesite, Assurant and American Family are just a few great sites for comparison shopping.

So don’t feel as you need to make a hasty decision on your renter’s insurance but it would be wise to invest in yourself by having insurance.  You never know when something bad will happen, have the peace of mind that it will be alright.
