The Methods of Storing Emergency Preparedness Supplies

We definitely want to make sure that as we start our own emergency preparedness lists, we would want to ensure that if something goes wrong, our stored food and water are safe for eating and drinking. We have to ensure that the food and drinks that we keep in our emergency food storage and emergency water storage are not expired. There are some effective methods that we can use to make sure that the food and water that we keep in our in emergency food storage and emergency water storage are safe.

 

Here are some notable methods that you can use in keeping food in your emergency food storage. Here are the following tips;

 

·       The Dry Ice Method – if you opt for this method, you would need to place 3 inches of food on the bottom of a Mylar Bag that should be placed inside a plastic bucket.  Make sure that the bucket is only half full so we can put the dry ice on top of the food. Then wait for the ice to dissipate.

 

·       The COs and the Nitrogen Flush Method – This method is actually your alternative in using dry ice. All you need to do is to wash out the food with the gas, but you need to make sure that you get the hose down into the containers bottom right after the food has been placed in.

 

·       The Bay Leaves Method -you need to spread the bay leaves throughout your container. You need to remember to place two bay leaves for small amounts and a gallon or five leaves if you will use buckets.

 

·       The Freezing Method – This is a simple method to do, you can put your grain in a bucket and leave it in your garage during winter, and the freezing temperature will kill any present weevil in your grains.

 

As for your water in the emergency water storage, you can use solutions or filters in cleaning or purifying your water, making it safe for drinking.
